Putnam Company has been in business over 40 years. Operating first in Harvard, IL and then moving to Walworth, WI, in 1974. The manufacturing facilities were enlarged several times. However, in 1993 a new and more spacious factory was built across the street from the original Walworth location. This building now houses all of our total operations including corporate offices, research and development, most manufacturing, along with warehouse and shipping. The company has been owned and run by the Putnam family since its inception. His son Robert Putnam, who remains the President and CEO, follows Mr. Monroe Putnam, the founder. Putnam Company has serviced the craft, sewing, quilt and related industries for 40 years with a variety of high quality products under the brand name, SOFT SHAPESâ. Among these products fiberfill, quilt batting, and pillow forms. In 1992, Putnam became one of the first to perfect and market a line of flame retardant thermal bonded quilt battings under the SPECIAL EDITIONâ logo. This line also incorporates a high quality, extremely soft fiberfill, and designer pillow forms. In 1991, Putnam Company sought to diversify and with this new markets have been developed. Putnam now provides innovative, high quality products under the SOFT SNOW,BOO BATTS and BUNNY BATTS logos to the seasonal industry and mass merchants, and have become the number one (1) supplier of this category in Europe. Our products were also awarded the PCM Award for Excellence for innovation, and best products of the year in 1994. Putnam Company has four times been the industry winner of the coveted PRODUCT EXCELLENCE AWARD. This award is given yearly in 12 categories to recognize the outstanding manufacturer or publisher in product innovation, packaging, marketing, consumer outreach, and advertising. More than 1000 manufacturers compete each year for this honor. Putnam’s innovative SOFT SNOWâ products garnered this prestigious award in 1992. In 1993 the SPECIAL EDITIONâ line of products also won the award. FUNFILâ colored polyester product for packaging was a finalist in the 1994 awards. In 1996 once again a SPECIAL EDITIONâ product, BLACK FIBERFILL, won first in both the Fabric Crafting & Quilting Division as well as Best Product of the Year.
The seasonal branch of our business has grown into the most significant portion of our business, and in response in 2009 the hard decision was made to eliminate the “craft lines” and concentrate totally on the seasonal portion of our business. Areas of growth involve a global marketing plan, which reaches from Canada to South Africa. We at present service the entire European Community through our marketing arm there as well as Australia and all of South America and the Caribbean. The main marketing mission of Putnam Company Inc. is to service the seasonal industry and all countries with the best quality, the best price, and the best service. The nature of our methods of doing business allows us to offer not only the above services but flexibility and creativity as well. We need only to know our customer’s wishes and needs.
